ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE GOAL

To encourage and reward student athletes who commit themselves to their schoolwork and maintain good grades while participating in and enjoying the sport of travel hockey.


CRITERIA FOR QUALIFICATION
All athletes, grades 6th – 12th, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above during second quarter (11/7/2011 through 1/20/2012) are eligible to participate. If there is a failing or incomplete grade, the student does not qualify. 
 
4th-5th grade students do not receive letter grades, but are eligible to participate if they are playing at the Squirt/U10 level. The student’s report card should indicate that homework is consistently complete and on-time and that the student is academically secure. 
 
An academic excellence recommendation form needs to be completed by a parent or guardian and returned to the team manager -- the form will be available at the completion of Q2. 
 
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE VARSITY HOCKEY GAME
Students who qualified for Academic Excellence last season (2010-11) OR/AND this season (2011-12) will be allowed free admission, with a paying adult, to the the boys varsity hockey game on Tuesday, February 14th at 7:30 at St. Croix Arena.  Recipients of last year's award are asked to wear their blue Academic Excellence t-shirt that was awarded at the 2011 spring banquet.  All students must check-in at the Academic Excellence table that will be located in the lobby area before the game.  There will be a brief recognition for all recipients between the 2nd and 3rd period.  Students will be invited to step out on the ice while names are being read.

RECOGNITION EVENT
Student-athletes that meet the stated goals will be invited to participate in a recognition event on April 3rd from 6:30-7:30 at Mahtomedi High School.  All qualifying players will receive an invitation to attend this event.

Instructions for Academic Excellence Application

Please complete the Academic Excellence form below and return it to your team manager by February 10th. Team Managers will then be responsible for turning in the forms to Sara Bartholomew by 2/14/12. The forms may be delivered or mailed to Sara at 1206 Ashley Lane, Mahtomedi, or given to her at the Academic Excellence game on 2/14/12.
