Does Your Player Live Outside of the Mahtomedi School District?

All players who live outside of the Mahtomedi School District need to follow the MN Hockey link below to obtain a waiver from their home association BEFORE they can register with and participate with MYHA.

  • There are 2 different types of MN Hockey Waivers:
    • 1) A School Attendance Waiver
      • IMPORTANT! MN Hockey changed the School Attendance Waiver rules in Jan 2024. This type of waiver can only be attained the Spring or Summer after the last year of Mites/8U and before a player starts 10U or Squirts.
      • This is a Mandatory Waiver that cannot be denied by the home or receiving association if attained at the correct time, and if a player attends school in the receiving district.
      • Once approved, School Attendance Waivers are good for the entire time that a player participates with MYHA, as long as they attend the same school, do not move, and do not take a break from participating with MYHA.
      • If a player has a School Attendance Waiver in place prior to 1/22/24, those waivers are grandfathered in and the player can continue to play with MYHA. However, the waiver becomes invalid if a player changes addresses, changes schools, or stops participating with MYHA for a season.
      • Follow this link to learn more: https://www.minnesotahockey.org/news_article/show/1297790
    • 2) A One-Year Discretionary Waiver: One-Year Discretionary Waivers can be denied by a home association, receiving association, or the District Directors. Any of those people can also write conditions, such as a level restriction, on the waiver. This type of waiver needs to be re-done every year that a player wishes to participate with MYHA. This is the waiver that an player who does not reside within the Mahtomedi School District would need to get approved before they can participate with MYHA unless they have a School Attendance Waiver in place.
  • Once you have filled out the form, you need to send it to the president of your home association to approve the release of your player.
  • Once you receive the signed form back, then you must email a copy of the form to myharegistrar@gmail.com. The registrar will submit it to MYHA's president for approval, and if approved, file it with MN Hockey.
  • MN Hockey rules dictate that a player in their first year of a school attendance waiver may not play on the highest division team within their level. After the first year, the player is eligible to compete at any division within their level.
  • MYHA Rules dictate that a player in their first year of a One Year Discretionary Waiver also may not play on the highest division team within their level.
  • To find your home association, you can use this address look up tool: https://www.gis.lcc.mn.gov/iMaps/schooldistricts/
